I am determined....3 days & 60 miles!
Aug. 2-4 in Denver, Co.....the 3 Day Avon Breast Cancer Walk. I have dedicated this 60 mile walk to my friend Andrea Dority and the many others that have waged a valient battle against Breast Cancer but...lost the fight.
This is from a friend that just completed the Avon Walk May 19th in Boston: "It is hard for me to put in words just how amazing this event really was. Before I try, I have to thank ALL THE MANY WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS, staff members and even walkers for all they did!!!! Through the rain and the snow and the blistered feet and the hypothermia and the school that resembled a war zone, they did the best they could and their best was amazing!!!! I laughed, I cried, I whined (yes, we all did at some point) but I cannot tell you all enough that no matter what happened, I was healthy and alive and there to walk for those not so fortunate. I thought about my friend, 34 years old who died from breast cancer last year leaving her two young children here and that is what kept me going. When the walk was stopped on Saturday, my sister and I, before getting to the bus chose to jump in the puddles like kids. I will remember that always. I will remember looking like space aliens in our plastic and mylar. I will remember porta-potty heaven, and I will remember all the spectators cheering us on, even in the rain and snow. I will remember the crossing guards and the angels on bikes and the kind police officers and the man with the hot chocolate and tea and of course, the pitstop crew!!! I met some wonderful people and MEN OF HEART, you are wonderful!!!!! Thanks for the cheering!! And finally I will remember walking in at the finish and seeing and hearing so many people cheering us on. We cheered for you too because you did it too!! So through the rain and the snow and the sleet and the wind and the cold and through the endless lines, and portapotties and blistered feet we all made it. We are alive and we all raised $6,000,000 for breast cancer. I will walk this again because something in me changed this weeekend and I will remember each day when some small problem arises, that I am alive and I walked to help others fight to stay alive and that is what matters." NEED I SAY MORE?? This is a very special Event to me and if you'd like to help support my effort, please e-mail me and I will send you a mail-in form, or give you a link for on-line donations. Each $dollar, each mile, each moment, each day.....WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! Hugs and health to each of you! Shelle |
